I’m a Weekend Girl.

What’s on deck for the Saucy Dame Dizzle this weekend? Plenty.

Mobb Deep Live at FIRST AVENUE

Ya boys, “Frick & Frack” are going to be in town tonite. I still can’t decide if I will be in attendance or not. I’m thinking I will, only providing the ticket price is “FREE Ninety-Nine”. Word on the street is that they got peeps ’stuck on the wackness’ of their live performances. And I’m not sure if I’m in the mood to listen to Prodigys lil frail tail, spout off verses such as the one in Mobb D’s newly released Blood Money.

“Pearly Gates”

“Now homey if I go to hell and you make it to the pearly gates
Tell the boss man we got beef
And tell his only son I’m a see him when I see him
And when I see him, I’m a beat him like a movie
For leavin us out to dry on straight poverty
For not showin me no signs they watchin over me
Yo! We a new breed in two thousand six
We don’t give a fuck about that religious bullshit
Nigga show me where the cash at
The nice whips with the three car garage to fit them shits
Man my life is painful, pray to angels
I’m prayin to myself hopin I ain’t got to spank you
My bullets shank you, and when my guns start cuttin, ain’t nobody ‘gon save you
In the bible times, they ain’t had to deal with the shit
We dealin within, these survival times. ”

I do enjoy Mobbs classics though. Still, miss me with the bullshit, Dunny.

Art, Culture, Technology

Saturday, I’ll be skipping all the way to the grand opening of the Minneapolis Central Library . After 3 years of construction and a $110 million dollar price tag ( courtesy of MN taxpayers) ; this “Caesars Palace” of libraries promises five levels of unique architecture, public art, a gateway to modern technology and the deepest, most unique public library collection in the Upper Midwest.

This includes 38.5 miles of shelving, 25 community meeting and study rooms, a state-of-the-art auditorium, an updated children’s library, a center for new Americans, a space especially for teens, and 353,000 square feet of additional access to knowledge-enhancing resources. Which reminds me, I have some outstanding fines that need to be paid, like ASAP. Can I borrow a dollar? Another $22 millon has been set aside for planetarium, expected to open in 2008.

Quick Fact: Minneapolis has the third largest public library collection per capita of any major city in America.

NE Minneapolis Art-A-Whirl® 2006 - “Anything Can Happen!”

Sunday, I’ll be getting my Art-A-Whirl ‘on’. No, that doesn’t mean I’m going to get naked and roll around in florescent paint . . . rather I’ll be volunteering with B Girl Be (I’ll talk more about that later), helping spread the word on B Girl Be 2006.

Art-A-Whirl is an exciting open-studio and gallery tour of Northeast Minneapolis featuring over 300 artists, including potters, tile makers, painters, sculptors, musicians, photographers, glass blowers, printmakers, and textile designers. I was able to attend the event a few years back and had a lovely time. I’m hoping the same for this time around. And of course you already know I’ll be getting snap-tas-tic with the camera.

Be sure to check back in for photos from these events and updates about fun times in your area.

Tom Hanks does His ‘Thug Thizzle’ in The Davinci Code

I go to the “picture-show” on the regular . . . but I refuse to pay for that overpriced popcorn, drenched w/ butter-flavored oil. I smuggle all of my snacks in the theatre like a chic bringin’ contraband to her lover in prison (minus the balloons). Damn a $5.00 box of JuJu Fruits. Whoever thought I’mma pay out the ‘wazoo’ for a handful of candy must’ve feel and bumped their head.

I’m also not above the “buy one, get one free” method. Meaning, I have no problem strolling my big-boned-yellow -ass, into the next movie, like I’m suppose to be there. Shhh don’t tell anybody.

I pretty much enjoy all genres of film, with the exception of anything “horrific” or just plain ‘ol stupid. Presently, I’m looking forward to seeing the highly anticipated The Davinci Code. No, I haven’t read the book and I wish folks would stop asking me that, but I still think I’ll be able to enjoy the show and follow what’s going on. I’ll let ya know what I think about next week. Depending on my level of mischief, you may get two movie reviews. *wink*

And that’s about it. What’s on deck for you?

Awww damn, I was about to flight out to MPLS.

Nothing on deck for me except hitting the deck of my bed and getting some sleep. The big dog (aka “boss”) is working a brotha hard and is not taking his foot off a brotha’s neck. Nah’ mean?

So I’m gonna relax and sit on my ashy ass and watch TV all weekend. The NBA Finals is what hittin’ fo.

  4. I just don’t know about MOBB anymore. They have been trying to gain the super escalated mass appeal for 3 albums now, and haven’t realized… WE liked them they way they were. But, noooooooooo here comes the commecialization of G-Unit to back them. Will it make that much of a difference in their crossover appeal? I doubt it. One things for sure, I’ll never purchase another album by them.
    Shit sucks.
