So . . .

Is your belly full of yummy-smack-o-licious-finger-lickin’-good-barbecue w/ alla the side fixin’s or what? Did you bite into a juicy piece of summer fruit today? Did you get your party on? Did you travel out of town to see the family? Did you wear white for the first time this season?
If you sipped a cool drink outdoors, while the sunshine danced offa your skin , raise your hand. *raises hand*
I don’t know about you, but my weekend was FULL. I need another day ‘off’, just to recuperate from my my “day off”. Ya dig? I keep forgetting I’m not 22 anymore. . .
In regards to the bloggy-blog, I’m working on a thang or two over here (I promise). But until then, let me ask you this: How many times did the “N” word come out of your mouth this holiday weekend?
I am so guilty of using the “N” word, as well as cussin’ like a sailor. My Mother or family never encouraged or set the example for me to do either, but . . . I do it anyway. *tsk tsk*
I recieved an email from a friend of mine with the following link:
Please take a look at it and tell me what you think about it.

Man, I am really trying to stop using the N word, as well as stop cursing. One of my favorites is MF, and I’ll call a dude a bitch in a second, quite loudly too! My mouth is so filthy I tell you. Sometimes I find it very hard to believe that I was once in the NOI. *sighs*
I started cursing and using the N word back in 97 when I worked at a prison. Sadly, when you try to talk normal to brothas they don’t seem to understand. Start cursing though and they show you nothing but love. Hmmm… strange huh?
Anyhow, all hope is not lost, as I have someone who is helping me to break the habit. Yay!

This is something I’ve been saying for years. People keep on using that word without realising al the hatred and negative history behind it. And the reason that they give for using that word, is that they overpowered that word by changing the spelling. That makes no sense at all. Richard Pryor said it best:
“Everybody should go home to Africa. Everybody. There is so much to see there in the eye and the heart./The one thing I got out of it was magic, it was like I was leaving and I was sitting in a hotel and a voice said to me, Look around what do you see?’/I see all colors of people doing everything,’ I said./Do you see any niggas? the voice said. I said, No . . . and you know why? Cause there aren’t any. It hit me like a shot man. I started cryin’ and shit. I was sitting there sayin’, I’ve been here three weeks and I haven’t said it. I haven’t even thought it. It made me say, oh my God, I’ve been wrong.’ I got to regroup my shit. I ain’t gonna nevah call another black man nigga, cause we nevah was no niggas.”

With Nina singing, the pain is stronger, the words pierce your heart as if the flag were to come through the screen into our consciousness. I have been working on a great many things to improve and focus on: moving to Cali, stopped smoking weed, and cursing. Yet, the “N” word I too have become a lot more sensitive to as well. I really try not to use it as the “term of endearment” we often say it represents in these days and times. I think as political correctness continues to evolve, I see young Brothas and Sistas alike using it less and less. I also think the intervention has to begin at a very early age. Lets teach the children and ourselves that we are one, we are Kings and Queens of a civilized intelligent forthright nature. Foster positivity and we all shall reap those rewards in the very near future.

I too feel like I need to phase this word out of my vocabulary. I aint going to lie though, it’s semi-ingrained in my standard lingo and it will take a conscious effort to blend it out of my psyche. It is an ugly word.
Since I’ve been writing, I’ve noticed that there are several words I cling to. I like to cuss alot too (not excessively, but enough). Overall, I’ve been working on expanding my wordplay and learning the origins or their meaning. I love language.
