I Believe The Children Are The Future, Teach Them Well and Let Them Lead The Way . . .

The entertainment industry sure knows how to write and promote songs about makin’ babies - but what about taking care of them and raising ‘em right ? Where are the songs about that?
For those of you curious to know who keeps me from robbing banks and becoming a female serial killer who stalks and slays emotionally dysfunctional men (hey! another story outline in the works!) . . . It could ONLY be him - my 6′3″ cherub.
You see, once I learned of his conception back in 1992 (yes bitches, 1992) - I quickly figured out that it wasn’t about me, anymore. I decided from that point forward it was my responsibility to get my “little man” ready for the world. No matter what, through the good, the bad and the ugly - I have to be here for him and make sure he has a fighting chance to be successful in this thing we call LIFE. It is my job as a parent to teach him respect, show him unconditional, yet “tough love” and help nurture a decent, God fearing human being. I mean, don’t I owe all of us - you, me, him and society- that much effort, at the very least?
Too bad some parents haven’t yet grasped the concept.

How many of us are paying for generations of the mistakes made by absentee, loafin’, do nothing, un-prepared parents? ALL OF US . . .
Here’s a thought:
Wouldn’t the world be a much safer and healthier place if ALL parents - moms and dads, across the globe - got actively involved in their children’s lives? It seems like such a simple thing to do. Can you imagine the positive impact that meaningful parent/child interactions could have on our world?
Another brilliant thought:
Gee, maybe if some hip-hop celebrities started rhyming about the importance of being a “good parent”. . . they could start some sort of trend that would actually be productive. I just threw that out there cuz we all know it’s “monkey see, monkey do” when it comes to the influence on our youth and peers, via entertainment and media.
The entertainment industry sure knows how to write songs about makin’ babies . . . but what about taking care of them and raising ‘em right ? Where are the songs about that?
And I could go on with this, but my “big boned” frame is wearing down this soap-box I’m standing on - so I’ll wrap it up for now. *LOL*
I’m just saying, let’s get it together people. WE CAN DO BETTER!
Fuck the frail shit. It’s crunch time. Did you know that?

What you said is so true. I worked at a head start program in a ghetto neighborhood and it saddened me at how neglected the children were. The kids knew all the words to Mariah Carey’s We Belong Together and could drop it like its hot (mind you these were some 3 yr old babies) but some of them didn’t know their colors or how to count. It seemed like the focus was more on insuring that their child rocked the hottest designer labels then education. It was very apparent which children had a guardian who was showing them attention at home. Those were the kids that weren’t acting out in class. The teachers in the head start program could only do so much for the kids. It’s really up to the parents to raise their child. The world would definitely be a safer and better place if parents really took the time to raise their kids.

To Reddy:
That’s one big baby!
LOL!
Keep your head up, ‘Lique. The children are indeed our future.
*gulp*
But the way parents are raising their kids today, the future is in some deep shit.
I’m an old mofo, so by the time I reached 60 years of age I might have to leave the country.
Kids (and parents) today are fucked up!
