Tavis Smiley speaks on Plastic Sugery via the Tom Joyner Morning Show. . .

African-Americans are turning to plastic surgery in record numbers. Why is that?
I too question - What is the cause for the rise in plastic surgery amongst African Americans; especially our women? It seems we use to be more confident, but there definitely is a trend of disatisfaction with our natural beauty. Then again, maybe this is nothing new, but the luxury of having the option to physical re-mold ourselves is more of a reality these days? Does extra money and video girls got educated womens thinkin’ maybe they should opt for a surgical transformation?
Something else to think about: Funny how all of the sudden plastic surgeons have taken the time to recognize the needs of their ethnic clients. Why now? Well, why not?! There is a whole brand new pool of money to dip into. Imagine all of the $$ that is to be made off of our insecurities.
The bottom line for me is: Unless I am in dire need of reconstructive surgery due to an automobile accident or something of that nature; I would never allow a physician or anyone else for that matter to lay a knife to my face. I wouldn’t dream of implanting a foreign object (breast augmentation, booty augmentation, chin and cheek implants) into my body soley for the sake of enhancement. I also wouldn’t allow any injections into my face or body either. No chemical peels, botox or any of that mess.
However, as soon as my money gets right I WILL consider letting them take this extra stubborn fat and skin, lying around my midsection and find a good home for it. Yup, I would consider it. But at the same time I pretty much enjoy being my natural self and I’d have to think hard a long about the dark side of plastic surgery and what it means to my health and self esteem. Mostly, it’s just a nice thought to have. You know, the idea of having some doctor cart the excess fat off to the dumpster. Nice thought indeed.
Sorry if I ruined anyones fantasy. Ha ha!
But on the real . . .
Uber elaborate hair weaves (supplied by the Koreans), fake nails and plastic surgery - what gives? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with self improvement, but it gets scary when people, especially women – feel like they need to build themselves a whole new frame. Especially when walking around looking like a brand new person on the outside, but still an old ugly mess on the inside.
Why do we as women feel the need to take it that far? You don’t generally hear men talking about sucking the fat out of their waistline and injecting it into their “crows feet”, do you? So why should we feel pressured? Why should any woman, white, black, or whatever feel pressured to go under the knife?
It’s going to be an interesting world when all of these folks rushing to getting plastic surgery start aging . . .
A person can only pull, lift, add and remove so much before thangs turn weird.

Well I aint paying no man or woman to chop and slice up on my face to make my trademark nose a lil leaner or my eyes less baggier or even to suck out all of the fat from my thighs and buttocks BUT you can best believe that a TUMMY tuck would be in my very best interest whether it be paid for via cash or credit!

Plastic surgery is for people who have a great deal of money and nothing else to do with it.
