Coming From Where I’m From: I’m Feeling Kinda Quiet & Anti-Social. . .

Well . . .I didn’t do much this weekend (at least not as much as I had planned) except for play with my friends Cabbage Patch Kid. . . *lol*

Saucy

I dunno . . . I have plenty to say, but nothing to say. Right about now I’m feeling way laid back and not interested in much of what surrounds me. I tried to hang out this Friday, but quickly wanted to skirt away from the venue when several individuals asked me, “What’s wrong with you?”

What’s wrong with me? As far as I’m concerned, I am fine and mellow. There is no static from “The Kid”, trust me. But one thing that I’ve noticed is that people expect me to be on “10″ at all times. They use my energy to get themselves pumped. They want to hear my loud voice and experience my flamboyant personality. They want to listen to funny jokes in between gum poppin’ and friendly insults. They want to see bright colors and big-bangled earrings. They want to see a happy, Kool-Aid faced, over the top, bedazzling Amazon, in all of my big-boned glory. It let’s them know it’s okay to be themselves and that’s comforting for them.

And that’s all fine and dandy, but sometimes I just like to chill. Believe it or not, I do know how to ‘fall back’. But as soon as a chick is ‘quiet’ it is assumed something is wrong, like I can’t be chill, reflective and boring like everyone else. LOL! I know at least one of you out there have to know what I’m writing about.

But yeah, as for a kid growing up in the 80’s I begged my mother for one of these rock-head dollies . . . The Cabbage Patch Kid craze was one of the biggest thangs poppin’ in my 8 year old world. But we were POOR. $25.00 + for a doll was not in my mothers range of vision. So I never got the Cabbage Patch Kid I wanted. And guess what America? I lived to see another day . . . and more years to come. THE END. But I did have fun playing with the tan-skinned baby-doll this weekend. (He smelled like baby powder). LOL!

Oh, and I briefly hung out with the God, Sadat X of Brand Nubian. I snapped this here pic of him posted up in the ‘telly’, trying to work out the remote control. . . I have some other pics that I will upload later. I didn’t take any photos of us together. I guess I didn’t feel it was necessary. We chatted about hip-hop, it’s “coon-a-licious” (my terminology) state of being, and the growing movement towards the resurrection of conscious music. It was a nice convo. I also had the opportunity to listen to a few tracks from his up and coming album. So that was peace. Perhaps I’ll elaborate when I’m feeling a little less ‘blah’. Just not in my normal state of mind ever since I left Miami. . .

  2. Yo man, X is one of the most intelligent brothers out here. Still holding it down for The “unenlightened.” I support his work anyday. He’s a positive being with supreme intellect and nature. Although I haven’t copped any of his more independent work [since Wild Cowboys],it still has been acclaimed for it’s message and clarity. If you have some interview scripts, I’d love to read them. Stay breezy, or chilly, it doesn’t matter you’re still the queen of hearts.

  3. i feel you sis. however, i take it out my blah-ness in more self-destructive ways, like driving really slow while listening to amel larrieux with tears streaming down my face. does it work? not really.

  4. I thought you were chill, I had so much fun chillin’ with you on Friday! That baby, man, it was so cute! I can’t wait to see the other pics that you post up.

There comes a point when everything just kind of dies in the night scene, really…it’s hard to go out when you see the same people doing the same things, what’s so interesting/fun about that? Nothing.
