The Fantasia Barrino Story: “Life Is Not A Fairy Tale”

I was at my granny’s house this afternoon and all through the evening. Without fail, like every other time I visit, she had the doggone LIFETIME Channel on lock. I’m like, “Grandma, why do you watch this stuff? Everything they show is always so dramatic and depressing. It’s so “over the top”. I don’t recall getting much of an answer except for something about, “Well it’s Sunday and there’s nothing else to watch.”
As always, I encouraged her to shut off the “telly” for awhile, chat with me and maybe feel the cool breeze of the great outdoors for a spell. People, we need to keep an eye on the elderly folks in our community and spend more time with them. Period. Spending more time with you means less time for them to be isolated and in front of the televison, etc. If you know of, or have senior citizens in your life, pay them a visit - sweep their steps or cook them a meal. Clip their toe nails, or hold a simple conversation with them. Whatever the case, do something! Because there will come a time that YOU are that elderly person. How would you like to be treated?
Anyhoo,

Fantasia! Fantasia Barrino is making her acting debut in the LIFETIME original movie,The Fantasia Barrino Story: “Life Is Not A Fairy Tale”. The show airs August 19 at 9 pm et/pt. Just thought I’d pass the info along.
Here’s a clip to add to your excitement:

Several months ago male friend of my sent me the link to Don’tDateHimGirl.com ; a website providing disgruntled women a place to come together and vent about their bad experiences with men. I took one look at the entry page of the site and dismissed it. I figured it was just a bunch of bitter women getting together to air out their former lovers, baby daddies, etc. I have no interest in joining the bitching sessions. The site even goes as far as allowing women to post photos of the men who are allegedly “No damn good”.
Recently I re-visited the site to take a closer look at its contents. Apparently the site owner of DontDateHimGirl.com, Tasha Joseph has found herself served with a defamation lawsuit and another class action suit claiming defamation and racial profiling amongst other things.

Just a lil photo-quiky for ya. I had typed some other ish to add to the pictures, but it was erroneously erased. *doh!*
So yeah, Slick Ricky, Kool Moe Dee and Special Ed breezed thru Minneapolis this past weekend. I didn’t attend the show this time around, as I had more pressing priorities - like removing my tripple wide bra and letting my 30+ year old breast relax under the cool AC. [T.M.I = *ha ha*] Here are a few pics of the legendary emcees and some of “The Locals”. ALL PHOTO CREDIT goes to Danny Boy (The dude in the black t-shirt & gold rope chain). Much B-Girl luv to you DB!

What is a “Lace Front” wig? Lace Front wigs are units that have strands of hair individually knotted to a nylon or polyester mesh material that is constructed along the frontal area of the wig (some full cap and/or outer perimeter). The natural looking foundation is undetectable and disappears as it touches the skin. It is structured to simulate hair growing out of the skin. (source)

Lace Front Wigs are one of the hottest and latest trends hitting the beauty scene. Celebrities such as Beyonce, Tyra Banks and RuPaul and Mary J Blige, have been rockin’ “lace fronts” for many, many moons. [And there are plenty of white celebrities who loveth the lace front too]. LFW’s are by far the most realistic type of wig availible on the market today. From my understanding the cost to obtain and maintain a custom fitted lace-front wig, is a “grip” [$$] - Which may be one reason why the trend has been kept within celebrity circles for so long.
However, as with any high end beauty trend - the “cat has been let out of the bag” and more affordable wigs are being made availible to the masses. I reckon that soon and very soon you will see the common neighborhood diva out at the club, swingin’ her lace front mane to and fro [It might be me].
“Lace Fronts” are heaven sent for anybody who is enduring hair loss due to an illness, the results of chemotherapy radiation treatments, or even for no apparent reason. A lace wig can add realistic-looking hair to their head and boost confidence. This type of wig, stunningly, can look and feel like real hair if it is of high quality and applied correctly. The only real issue with a “lace front” is that it cannot hold up to daily wear and tear as well as a wig made of synthetic fibers.
The following clips will help give you some insight into the application and removal process of a LFW. Enjoy!
Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happyness and My 45 Cents Thrown In For Good Measure.

Hey! Dig the trailer for Will Smiths new movie, ” In The Pursuit of Happyness”. It’s due to hit box offices near you this December. It looks like a winner. * two thumbs up*
Synopsis: The drama centers on Chris Gardner (Smith), a sporadically employed salesman who wins custody of his young son just as he is about to begin a stock brokerage intern program. America fell in love with the real life character, who was left jobless and homeless at age 30 due to a series of circumstances, and later found himself and his baby son living in a bathroom at a San Francisco train station. (source) — Heart warming storyline indeed. Very inspirational - Kinda coincides with one of my more recent posts and surely worth checking out. Will Smith is a class act and mighty fine actor.
However, the “Bitter Baby Momma” in me would like to say that it’s usually the woman doing everything within her means to raise her child . . . while the man is estranged [doing what the hell he pleases]. You know, it’s funny to me how people tend to lavish men, especially single fathers, with extra kudos and sympathy for taking care of their children. Like some how supporting the needs of his offspring is an automatic lifetime admission, to a coveted spot at the round-table for “Knights in Shining Armor”. He’s a HERO. Sir Lancelot is considered to be a “good man” by potential suitors and the community in general. Every time his name is mentioned someone makes sure to add with great emphasis, “He – takes – care - of – his - children. He’s a single Father, ya know?” - As if the clouds should spell out his name and blue-birds should sing on his shoulder every time he departs from home.
