Share My World: The Smiling Barista

Starbucks is one of my “dailys”. The “coffee scene” this particular morning was extremely hectic. The line was so doggone long, they had a server w/ a “head-set” on; taking orders before you even reached the counter. It was ‘thick’ up in there. But I just have to have my little “foo-foo” coffee to make my morning complete.

And then there is the friendly “Barista” guy. . .

He always has a smile for me.
I know when I go there I am going to be smiled upon.
Regardless of if I’m feeling “some kind of way”, or I’m plain faced with a poorly groomed head of hair and my pimples are on “high-beam” (yes, I have those days) – He never waivers in his ability to part his lips & show just the right amount of teeth to let me know I am favored in his presence.

Of course there is small talk into between all of the “kool-aid”. It’s not like he’s a mentally-ill individual with a permanent grin pasted on his face and having solo conversations with himself. Naw, he’s of sound body and mind, for sure.

This has been going on for awhile now. . .

I visit. He smiles.

Finally this morning I just flat out asked him, “Why are you always smiling at me?”
Everyone was looking at us, waiting for his response.

He cheerfully replied, “Because you’re just so cute”.

His tone was not that of lust or flirtation, but more of admiration and acknowledgement. The next thing I know, I was smiling too. I smiled all the way back to my cubicle (outwardly of course, but mostly on the “inside”). I am carrying a smile in my heart right at this very moment.

Now, this isn’t the beginning of a budding romance (it’s not that serious). It aint like I’ve never been complimented or smiled at by a man – that’s a given. This is more about how one person’s happiness and how a simple smile can affect the next person and so on . . . It is in the way he spoke his words and his overall pleasant & non-sleazy disposition.

Thank you “Mr.Barista Man” for making the Saucy Dame Dizzles Day. I’se really appreciate it.

Now, I command everyone reading this to smile at least one person today. It aint going to kill ya!
