Play Another Slow Jam

Just curious. When was the last time you slow danced with someone?

Sadly, I can’t remember the last time. Probably because I have yet to have a ’slow dance’ encounter that I would consider, OFFICIAL. Sure, I’ve awkwardly two-stepped with a guy or two in my day, but it wasn’t the stuff that dreamy memoirs are made of. It was more like some jive negroe pulling me close at the end of the night, tryna create an entry way into my ‘femininity’. He’s thinking he’s all extra smooth & stuff and I’m just waiting for the song to end.Unfortunately, the men who offer to slow dance with me, I don’t want to slow dance with. The fellas I would like to share a slow jam with, never ask. But, why do short men always want to slow dance with me? I’m 6 feet tall! I guess they want a face full of breast. I can’t blame ‘em for that. Still, I’se be needing collar bone to rest my head on or at least some pretty brown eyes to stare into without cramping my neck.

Am I the only woman who has been deprived of a tender and meaningful slow dance? Feels like that way . . .

The good news is that I have plenty years left for the DJ to play another slow jam. One day I’m sure he’ll make it extra sweet.

So tell me . . .

When was the last time you slow danced with someone?

Do share.

  3. My last time was when I was in one of my elementary school “dances.” The quotations reference the fact that it really wasn’t a dance per say. It was more like a bunch of kids who got together used a church recreation room, threw up some streamers, balloons and had teachers and parents telling us how close we could get. Now this is only from memory as my childhood was spent being an only child terrorizing things and people. But, I digress… I had on some fly shit yo! Or, at least I was fly in the circa 89-90 years. I had the polka dot shirt on, with my Hammer genie pants, oh and don’t let me fuck you up with my metal tipped Giorgio Brutini’s either. I had 3, yes 3 steps bitches [I have the pictures to prove my shit was better than Kid's] with all types of arrows in my head. It was fun and awkward all at the same time. The music was coming off an oversized Radio Raheem box, with the mic to the “surround sound” taped to it. Things started kinda quiet. The guys one side, the gals the other. On another note though, I have to give it up to the ladies here. Almost anywhere you go the women will be the ones jumping out of their seats onto the dance floor 1st. This little shindig of mine was no different. So we start “dancing” and grindin to the groove and each other. until we get that most unfortunate TAP on the shoulder to let us know, “You’re too close.” We spread apart for about 2 beats, then get back to poking. Let me tell you there is no help for you when you get a hard on with the Hammer pants. EVERYONE sees it, even in black. But, alas that innocence is gone queen Lique. Remeber the days???? What happened to them, will they return?

  5. Every chance I get. Usually at Gabby’s on Fridays as TK mentioned. I enjoy the closeness and the slow jam pillow talk that can only happen when 2 ppl r close enuff 2 whisper unmentionables to one another. I highly recommend ladies steppn it up a bit and stop being a “choosy lovers” and just have fun. Fellas, ditto!

  6. It was two years ago at this club where they only play late 80’s and early 90’s music and the last session they played like four slow songs. They played.. Doc Box and B Fresh “Slow Love”, Keith Sweat ” Make It Last Forever”, H- Town ” Knocking Boots” and Prince “Adore”. It was a night to remember because I love clubs that slow up songs at the end.

  8. Damn you took me back with this Q, Actually it was about a month ago in my living room, me and the person I was seeing got caught up on this Frankie Beverly song, dancing to it was more fun than sexy I admit.

The last time before that, was at a middle school dance, we tried to hump on each other, and the teachers made sure to separate us… Which was a good idea.

  9. funny you should ask. it was actually last week but we had an anniversary so we were playing out the whole love scene thing lol. Before that at a wedding in February. But I’m a “dance all the time by myself” kinda girl. Just when the mood hits me and thank goodness I’m usually alone and can really get into it haha. I also admit that when my lil fur baby Gizmo was alive I used to swoop him up, grab his lil paw and we would cut a rug or two lol. Now that I have revealed way more than I should I’ll waltz outta here :)

  11. Let’s see…it’s been at least a few years. And you mean a REAL slow dance, not that “classy” stuff i do with my big brother and dad @ weddings. yea, i can’t even remember..maybe 3-5 years ago? probably with the ex-bf @ my brother’s wedding, but i’ve probably blocked that out.

i would like to actually…when’s the party, Lique?

  13. awww…man… my last official slow dance was in the 90s. in fact, i believe that it was to that one blackstreet song where they’re on clouds in the video hollering about “don’t leave me girl.” needless to say it’s been quite a while. *sniffle*sniffle*

  15. Last time I slowly moved a man on the dance floor was Saturday June 30th. Remember to a “T”. Cause I almost forgot where I was. Darkness filled the room. Tequila and Chocolate men not a good combination for me. ;~) He grabbed the small of my back. All I could feel was the heat, and every last one of his chest compressions. All I could hear was “lady” blasting through the dance floor speakers causing vibrations that they shouldn’t have….

  16. I’ve not slow danced in some time…my last good one had to be in like 8th grade. The 80’s was the shit…a nice lil grind with my girl who was trying to make her ex jealous, so we was kissing and the whole nine…I didn’t care why she was doing it, but it was that magical feeling that I’ve yet to feel again. She was also my “first” a couple days later which was special too…she subsquently claimed she was turning her life over to Christ and would no longer be wanting to see me…but it’s all to the good. I sometimes still think about it/her and would love to get a chance to do it again, grown up style.

it is what it is though
