Q. What Do Bill O’Reilly, Adrienne Curry and KeKe Wyatt Have in Common?

A. Major controversy surrounding their comments (or *ahem* misquoted commentary) about black folks in America.

For the past three days my inbox has been flooded with some good old fashioned, all American, race relations/ “colorism” (light skin -vs- dark skin) type of stuff. Although much of what has been said is ignorant or just flat out stupid — it is good to have been said aloud so that people have the opportunity challenge and educate each other. If you ask me, there is work to be done on all sides of the fence.

Oh, but before we go any further– Looky here, motherfucker, I want some more ice tea and extra honey on my biscuits, bitch! *throws up gang signs and sucks teeth*

If you don’t know where I’m going with that last statment, read on, you’ll soon find out…

Americas Next Top Model Adrienne Curry sounds off on BET and Black History month:

Adrienne

This is gonna be hard guys. I LOVE the comedians on BET. I also LOVE the fact that they play my favorite show of all time, In Living Color. However, I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month! In my eyes, the Native Americans deserve it MUCH more, seeing how we destroyed their ENTIRE SOCIETY. There are hardly any of them left! They also have been proven to have the WORST living conditions on their reservations. I want AN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH. One where we learn about EVERY race, ALL OF OUR LEADERS, EVERYONE! I think by having a month dedicated to one race, and not one for any other, is RACIST. Every fund set up to only help people of one race is SICK and RACIST.

Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the fuck on.” (more…)

R&B Singer Keke Wyatt speaks to Eurweb.com about her beef with Essence.com: Says she was badly misquoted and betrayed….

keke01.jpg “Keke Wyatt is not happy with Essence.com following her Q&A that appeared last month to promote her new album and title track “Ghetto Rose.” The 25-year-old Indianapolis native vents her frustration with the article, and claims she was “badly misquoted” when the discussion turned toward her biracial background. Many readers were offended by Wyatt’s reference to black people as “they” and reference to her straight locks as “pretty hair.”

The actual quote from the Essence.com article reads as follows:

“I hate how everyone thinks that Black people are beneath them, even Asians, Whites and … Mexicans. No, I’m not all Black, but I definitely stand up for the Black people. They’ve had it rough, they can’t help the fact that they’re skin is dark, or that their nose is a lil’ wider or that the curls in their hair might be tighter. I don’t think that it’s fair for people who look like me-the light skin, pointy nose and pretty hair-to think that dark-complected people are any less than them. Who am I? I’m not better than you. I breathe the same air and I bleed the same blood. Nobody is better than anybody else. We are all in this struggle called life. I think brown skin is beautiful because people like me have to lay out in the sun to try and look like you. My best friends are Black-I mean, Black-Black-and I think that’s so beautiful. I think that’s why I decided to make my children Black…I could have married a White dude and my kids probably would have looked completely White. That’s not what I wanted. Now, they can go outside and get a for-real tan (laughs). I think Black is beautiful. I stand for the African-American people until the day I die.”

Bill O’Reilly can’t get over the fact that black people are, well, people:

oreilly.jpg “You know, I was up in Harlem a few weeks ago, and I actually had dinner with Al Sharpton, who is a very, very interesting guy. And he comes on The Factor a lot, and then I treated him to dinner, because he’s made himself available to us, and I felt that I wanted to take him up there. And we went to Sylvia’s, a very famous restaurant in Harlem. I had a great time, and all the people up there are tremendously respectful. They all watch The Factor. You know, when Sharpton and I walked in, it was like a big commotion and everything, but everybody was very nice.

And I couldn’t get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia’s restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it’s run by blacks, primarily black patronship. It was the same, and that’s really what this society’s all about now here in the U.S.A. There’s no difference. There’s no difference. There may be a cultural entertainment — people may gravitate toward different cultural entertainment, but you go down to Little Italy, and you’re gonna have that. It has nothing to do with the color of anybody’s skin.”

O’REILLY: That’s right. That’s right. There wasn’t one person in Sylvia’s who was screaming, “M-Fer, I want more iced tea.”

WILLIAMS: Please –

O’REILLY: You know, I mean, everybody was — it was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun. And there wasn’t any kind of craziness at all. (source)

  3. Bill O’Reilly is bigot, in general. I’m surprised that people are surprised that he would make idiotic comments about people of color. His perception of people outside of his own race is often warped and deep in historical stereotypes and generalizations.

Bill would have been fired if he used the N-word in his comments. I’m quite sure if he was home around his peoples, that N-word would have been used.

As for Adrienne Curry she’s a dumb broad.

As for Keke Wyatt, she is a hottie. She looks like a Saucy Dame that we all know.

    Trent says:
    Hmmmmm?

But with KeKe, I think she’s just confused. She’s playing both sides of the fence, here.
Keke is a beautiful woman and not because she’s light skinned. It’s a damn shame that she’s beautiful on the outside, but on the inside, she has this pity for dark-skinned black women.

And Angelique, this is a nice journalistic roundup you put together. You go girl. There’s a Pulitizer in your future.

  4. I really can’t even comment critically on this one. I’m not surprised by Bill because we all know he’s an idiot to the tenth degree. I guess he was supposed to see a giant cauldron on a fire in the middle of Sylvia’s with everyone dancing around it. And the way he says “take him up there”, like Al has never been to Harlem before and he was doing him a favor. Whateva! Adrienne Curry was never a smart and classy broad to begin with. Trailer trash wanna be model F list celebrity. And KeKe is has her own issues that we all know about. Keep the sharp objects away from her. She’s a clown, or two short of circus.
