Cool Kids: Black Mags & Skinny Jeans

Saucy loves the Cool Kids, I do, I do, I doooo. Yup, they’re some b-boy fresh, honey pies, yo…Momma just wants to hug them and luv them and wear one of their ADDIAS jackets in 5th period. LOL! Okay, I’m being silly but I’m sure you get the point.

Dig the vid “Black Mags”… It’s like hopping into a time machine and going back to the future.

So tell me ya’ll: What do you think about the “skinny jeans” Mikey is rockin’ in the video? I’m thinking it works for him. I’m not opposed to seeing this dude in snug jeans, at all. Is it becoming cool (again) for brothers to move away from all of the baggy 4XL gear and get more fitted up? I’ve also noticed it’s the younger set, teens and 20-ish men who aren’t afraid to let their clothes hug their frames. Should there be an age limit on guys allowed to participate in the old/new school trend?

Skinny Jeans on Men: Yay or Nay? What are the rules of engagement?

What about biker shorts? Wesley Snipes wore them with a ‘fanny pack’ back in the day!

  2. oh! oh! oh! i love the skinny jean!!! it’s a guilty pleasure. i’m so over the oversized denim that in any other material would be considered hammer/parachute pants. blah. i don’t like them to be too terribly tapered at the ankle though, a tad to british for my taste. and since not many men are hip to the trend yet, i get my kicks by going to neiman marcus, pretending to look at the nighties when really i’m eyeing the manequin across the way with the tight jeans & jimi hendrix tee.

  3. Keep it baggy and saggy for me thank you.

In NYC, every skinny white kid and goofy hipster black dude are wearing skinny jeans and showing off their “male” camel toe (no homo).

That’s the last thing I need to see when it comes to urban fashion for the average hip-hopper or hipster kid.

Keep it baggy but not too baggy. T-shirts should be big but not too big that it comes down to your ankles. And maintain your kicks.

  4. I feel the jeans of 79-83 , Calvin Klein,Lee,Levi bootcut but not tight like disco days or tapered leg like 84-87. RUN DMC is a good look for form fitting jeans without lookin fruity. always ask, what would Kanye do?

  5. dude, no bleeping way. This is by far the ugliest trend of all time. take your skinny jeans and shove them up your arsehole. Muah!

  6. How can I rock skinny jeans with a 36 inch waist? And where can I keep my heat? But seriously, I rock my jeans as close to my actual size without being too baggy or too snug.

  7. I can’t say one way or the other.

It depends on the man. A man is gonna have to be confident and have a bonafide swag to pull off skinny jeans today!!

  8. Ok, so I’m actually still ok with big jeans on dudes. I think some people take it to the extreme, but overall, I’m still good with it. But Mikey’s workin it out here.

I guess i’m with Rogg on this one. I think it’s actually pretty fashionable to scale down a little in the denim area. Being in the A now, you see a lot of guys with a more high fashion, Kanye kinda woop goin’ on. But I also see a lot of not-so-loose v-neck t-shirts on men, which I think is wholly inappropriate :) The verdict: I’m cool with jeans that are a bit more true to form than the usual baggy look, but fellas, please, leave *something* to the imagination… *j

  9. I think skinny jeans aka “nut huggers” is a step in the right direction; however, it skews a little bit past comfortability on the spectrum. I LOVE the fact that baggy, saggy jeans are finally going out of style, but the male camel-toe is not a good look…especially for us brothers out there who rock the HUSKY :P
How ’bout we just get pants that FIT? That’s the ultimate grown + sexy.

  10. All, I can say is that it’s a trend. There’s nothing new under the sun. Now as for a fashion statement, I can’t do it. Those jeans just look way to tight. I don’t like things thaat close to certain quarters. And I think it looks bad on me. For some, they can ride the current trends. For me, I like MY style.

  11. No way, this skinny pants thing just reeks of conformity. I know Andre 3000, and Russel Simmons, and Kanye are trying to push this hipster crap on us; gottta clean up hip hop since Imus. So instead of focusing on the watered down psuedo gangsta, can never shut up about the club lyrics, we get th male camel toe and shirts so tight you can flex and rip them. To me this a ridiculous effort by rich hip hoppers trying to “fit-in” with the urban chic crowd, not an actual evolution of urban fashion. Baggy clothes came from the hood, out of hand-me downs since everyone in the ghetto was broke-a part of African-American culture if you ask me, that should be embraced; not a cop-out to trends. The shirt so low, it goes to your ankle is stupid looking, but a not so extreme baggy look is still sick, and what I’m sticking with.
