Hybrid Kitty Kats for the Insanely Affluent…

So, I’m a recipient of the Daily Candy newsletter (If you aint in the know, get in the know). Yesterdays feature was about the L.A. based, uber exotica pet breeders, Life Style Pets.

Lifestyle Pets claim to breed “Asheras, the worlds rarest and most exotic cat“. By blending the bloodlines of the African Serval and Asian Leopard Cat with a domestic cat, a totally tame feline resembling a mini leopard is born. Check Life Styles Pet website for details.

The price tag for this most divine kitty aint no punk. In other words, Asheras aint for everybody, just the insanely affluent (and possibly very foolish) people. For a mere $22,000 you too can own an cuddly Ashera. Your kitty is hand delivered fully vaccinated with nail caps on its claws, as well as a year of veterinary insurance, a microchip identifier, and the ear of an animal behaviorist for ten years. Because you can never be too careful.

But $22,000.000 for an “exotic” pet? Um, hell nah. I don’t think so. Do you know what I could do with $22,000? I have other priorities. As soon as an extra 22 G’s falls into my lap, I’ll be high stepping all the way to the bank to pay off random debts and most importantly the federal government (student loans are evil and they need to be pardoned).

Even if I did have extra money lying around to trick off on a designer pet, I just don’t see what the hype is all about. I also feel like there are too many animals sitting in shelters to invest my money into one. Do you know how many animal lives I could save with $22,000? What about human lives?

Frivolous is a word that comes to mind. But there are people out there “who got it like that”.
