Just Doin’ What I Do In the 612…

Hello Lovelies, *waves*
So much fun and merriment I’ve had! It’s hard to recap an entire month in one swoop, but I’ll do my best. And as for pics, well, my camera is on it’s last leg. I really need to get another one. Relying on people to do how I do with the snap-o-rama is frustrating at the least. For those who want to know what the Dame Dizzle has been up to for the last 30 days, read on…
Otherwise, I’ll catch you on the next post.
Over the past week, I’ve been in the good company of my beloved Minneapolis fam. We’re a mob of characters for sure — an eclectic, kooky, crazy, sexy, cool, crew who “do us”, because we can and that’s how it should be.
Nevertheless, I grow bored with the same ‘ol places and faces. That’s why it was a sweet treat to make the acquaintance of indie rocker chics, Graph Nobel (Toronto) and Res (Philly). Currently residing in L.A., Res and Nobel have formed a kick ass band that goes by the name of Fleetwood Black.
Heard of them? If not yet, you will soon (via SAUCY DAME DELUX. There’s more love to come.)
Painting the Town Purple, Minneapolis Style, We…
- Boogied down to musical stylings of DJ Verb X in the “Bungalow Lounge”, at FIRST AVENUE.
- Shared our thoughts and appreciation for the work of the famed Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo *
- Entered the scene by way of “the list”, pumped our fists, and recited classic rhymes at the Hip Hop Live Tour. Minneapolis’ own Brother Ali, The “Iron Man” aka Ghostface and the original god, Rakim performed for a nearly sold out audience with the legendary Rhythm Roots All Stars. **
- Enjoyed an impromptu performance courtesy of our guests, Fleetwood Black (Graph and Res) at The Blue Nile, a popular Ethiopian restaurant and lounge on the south side. I’m telling ya’ll, aint nothing like seeing two down ass sisters rock out on the drums and guitars, while lacing the grooves with solid vocals. I’se been needing to see more of that in the Twin Cities!
- Got our happy hour mingle on at another popular watering hole, Rudolphs. The throwback, supper club designed rib joint is ideal for grubbing down on inexpensive appetizers, having a a dranky-drank and people watching. It aint no telling who you might bump into…
- Took advantage of yet another free SCION event: Brand Nubian performing live with Connie Price and The Keystones… SCION is really marketing towards the urban/hipster set. Check for some of their nifty cd samplers here…

Yeah, for someone claims to be bored. I move around, huh?
I’m not finished yet, ya’ll!
- Breaking away from the juice crew, ya girl Saucy caught a production of the Broadway musical, THE LION KING. ***
- Like a grillion other peeps, I saw of the most hyped picture show of the season, American Gangster, twice. The first time courtesy of a boot-legged internet viewing (w/ a picture as clear as water flowing from the French Alps) and then opening night at the theater (just to contribute my 2 cent to box office sales). ****
- I love private parties. A marketing company I’ve done some freelance writing for has some fab gatherings for their employees and people “in the know”. Halloween night me and one of my BFF’s attended a Halloween Couture themed party. It was a blast! Hairstylists and make up artists were made available to help you create or enhance your Halloween look. Me and my girl did it up with false eyelashes, decadent hair pieces and festive makeup. Tooooo bad I don’t have any photos!
- I also got down at another soiree sponsored by the same marketing company: “Vegas Night”. Think complimentary limo rides, black and pink satin, fire eating babes, black jack tables, magicians, showgirls and an unlimited buffet. That was just for starters:)
- Later in the evening I made my way over to a children’s benefit, help raise funds for warm winter coats (because we got to keep the babies warm). “Onyx, Giving With Style”, a fashion show featuring a grown and sexy bevy of ebony models rockin’ all black attire (feathers and jewels to match) took place at the ultra swanky Graves Hotelin the “Infinity Room“. Urban Maven, Anika International and Positive Image, pulled together an elbow rubbing affair that needs to take place more often in this neck of the woods. And it was all for a positive cause!
- I’m disappointed because I was too tired to make it to the Baileys Get Together which included an evening of smooth R&B from John Legend and drink tickets for some tasty Baileys signature cocktails. Ya’ll know I loooove me some Baileys. I do. I had to fall back.
And just think, for every one thing I do share, there are 5 others that I don’t. *wink*
Extended thoughts & info the blurbages above:
*In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Frida Kahlo (1907–1954), the Walker Art Center, has organized a major exhibition featuring 50 paintings from the beginning of Kahlo’s career in 1926 to the year of her death in 1954, including personal photographs that are now available for public viewing for the very first time. The exhibition kicked off October 27, 2007 and ends January 20, 2008. Minneapolis, if you visit the Walker on Thursday evenings, it’s free. Up next are showings in Philly and San Francisco. To know Kahlos story, is to better understand the depth and meaning of her work. Her art transcends the initial greeting of a mysterious, some times bizarre, looking woman with connecting eyebrows. I urge everyone, especially the ladies to learn more about her. Much like like us, she went through hell and back.
** I swear, Ghostface needs to just go on ahead and plunk down a bankroll on a condo or something because I turn around that cat is in Minneapolis. Damn. I’m kind of over him being my baby daddy and all. I’m tired of the red ensembles and I’m not I’m feeling his steez on his upcoming project, “The Big Doe Rehab”. It’s time to switch it up a bit, eh? And isn’t the word “doe” used in the context of a female deer versus “dough” which is more proper like for street verbiage. I dunno, either way, shit is getting kinda cupcake if you ask me. But what can I say, the man is getting his money. Ghost stays on tour, which is alot more than I can say for some other artists.
But I was EXTRA pumped to see Rakim. It was my first time hearing him rock the mic. He still sounds crisp and his gear was on point.
***The LION KING is one of the most elegant and breathtaking productions I’ve seen. The sets and the technical elements were absolutely gorgeous. It was a fun, family show, without being corny. For the most part I enjoyed myself. However, I did expect stronger vocals from some of the cast members. I’m sure voices get strained performing day in and day out…but at the same time, ticket prices aint no punk. Live theater is expensivvvve. And for that reason I expect folks pipes to be superb. Ya know? And my knees were cramped. Damn those tiny seats!
Saucys Rate-O-Rama: 4 out of 5 Stars
****It was a tight flick overall. Ya’ll, know I < em>love em> me some Denzel Washington and ‘ nem. But what’s more interesting to me is the commentary from the widow of a real Harlem OG, Mayme Johnson. Peep her interpretation of Frank Lucas and the situation and more in “The Rap on My Husband, Ellsworth “Bumpy” Johnson “. Cuz it almost always takes a woman to dish the real deal. We don’t miss a beat.
A few pics gathered from various sources, but not nearly the footage I’ve could’ve had…
SNAP-O-RAMA
Well, someone snapped a before/mid-process photo, but didn’t follow up w/ an after shot. D’OH!
