The Urban Bloggers Network

Oh noooo not another social networking site! *grabs hands full of hair on each side of head*

YES, yet another social network. I’m thinking I might be more active at this site in comparison to some others that I’ve created a profile for and quickly abandoned. We shall see. Check it out, click on my badge to go there. View my profile (while you can because I’m certain my “Stans” are going stalk me into throwing up a forcefield around my template). Let me know what you think. If it’s appealing to you…sign up! I need friends!

The UBN is the brainchild of blogging diva, Necole Bitchie. And it’s a pretty smart move if you ask me.

But, if the UBN is not your cup of tea…guess what? You can create your OWN network or join other networks. Yup! You can. Isn’t that exciting? *smile*

This is great new for many of you slackers out there who are unable to access your MySpace or Facebook accounts while loafing your do nothing ass on the J.O.B. - because your employer cut off your connect. And you even tried surfing through a proxy, but they got hip to that tooooo. How dare they expect you to get some work done while you’re on the payroll! The nerve! Hey, as a matter of fact, someone should start a social network for “Indignant Office Space Fall Backers”. Following up, grab the torch and create a SN for people who lost a “good” job, or couldn’t get hired, because they spent their days and evenings “networking”, i.e., cyber frontin’ and partying and doing dumb stuff for the world to see.

Okay.Thanks.Toodles!

Weeping Tears of Boredom…

The Heart Gently Weeps” video by Wu-Tang Clan featuring Erykah Badu, Dhani Harrison and John Frusciante from the newly released “8 Diagrams” album…

Ummm…my heart does not go pitty-pat. What’s up with the Wu and Badu? I’m not feeling the ‘newness’ from the artists whom I useta loooove so, so much. Maybe it’s true - when a person starts aging or has been in the game for awhile, they gradually lose their edge and become less relevant. Maybe? In this case I’d have to say yes. It’s not crackin’ like it once was.

Afterthought: I do respect one important thing - There is no booty shaking, bragging or bling associated with the content of this video. I appreciate that.

‘Coonskin’, the Animated Film and Nouveau Cult Classic by Ralph Bakshi.

Coonskin

Spike Lee digs it. The Wuntag Clan wants to do a remake…

As for me, I had never in my ‘mullato’ life heard of the film until tonight. Now that I’m ‘in the know‘, I must say that I’m intrigued and extremely tickled (and shocked) by the wild commentary and 70’s styled blaxploitation animation. I’m also left wondering how much has really changed since 1975? If Coonskin were to take place in the present we certainly wouldn’t be hard pressed for material.

What the heck am I rambling about? Read on, people, read on…

Overview:
Released in 1976, “Coonskin” is a VERY controversial film by Ralph Bakshi (Fritz the Cat, Heavy Traffic), that is a violent, sexual retelling of Uncle Remus and the Brer Rabbit stories (Song of the South). The film stars Phillip Micheal Thomas, Scatman Crothers, and Barry White, and begins as Philip Micheal Thomas Character is locked up in jail with Scatman Crother’s Character, awaiting to be set free by Barry White’s Character. While waiting for the jail break, Crother’s tells Thomas a tale about Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear, and Brer fox, who move from the South to the North, and gets involved with the mafia, phony preachers, black revolutionarys, pimps, and racist cops.

The Glorious Voice of Alice Smith

Alice Smith

Voice control, not enough of todays artists exercise it. Alice Smith on the other hand, is so, so, sick with hers. Honeys voice is like rolling thunder and gentle rain. I LOVE IT. I’m pretty sure she is not a smoker.

And she’s hella sultry .

Erick and Parrish Are Still Making Dollars…

EPMD

Good News for the Locals:

One of the dopest old-school Hip-Hop duos, EMPD, will be rockin’ the spot at the Varsity Theater, May 21st, 2008. Admission to the show-show is FREE, providing you RSVP and make it to the venue in a timely manner (Cuz you will get assed out if you try to stroll in tardy. Anybody remember the popularity of Redmans show?).

Because I’m an Original B-Girl, I remember when they dropped “Strictly Business” and crushed the scene with “You Gots To Chill“. That shit was so hard for it’s time. It was also 20 years ago. I was 15. Fifteeeeen! Dang, I’m old. I’ve lovethed me some Erick and Parrish ever since. I thank them for Redman, Keith Murray, the Def Squad and all of that.

Needless to say, yours truly will be in the building.
