My Mothers Day: The Good, The Bad & The Beautiful…

Mothers Day

The Good:

I indulged in a child free, stress free, afternoon brunch with my favorite girly friend (and mother of 6 = 2 sets of twins, ya’ll, 1 set of girls and 1 set of boys) at Cafe Lurcat. We sat for hours sipping mojitos, mimosas, and looking like some bonafide MILFS.

The Menu:
Lemon Blueberry Scones
Seasonal Fresh Fruit
Apple, Cheese and Chive Salad
Brioche French Toast with Apricot Glaze
Vermont Cheddar Cheese Grits with Smoked Kentucky Ham
Applewood Smoked Bacon
Scrambled Eggs with Creme Fraiche and Chives
Pommes Anna
Asparagus with Comte
Roasted Chicken with Root Vegetables
Raspberry and Blueberry Gratin

Tasty!

The Bad:

My mum was in rehab for Mothers Day. No, really…she was (and still is)… in rehab…forever and ever… and ever. And I’m not talking about physical therapy either. *lol* How’s that for bringing the realness? I know I’m not the only person out there with a dysfunctional family.

Saturday evening I had a major “Throw Momma From The Train” blowout with my Grandmother (The woman who raised me). I’m telling ya’ll, the woman is mean and surly - which partially attributes to why my mother has been in rehab, off and on for the past 30 years. Ya think? She’s difficult to deal with (and that’s an understatement). I didn’t go visit her evil ass on Mothers Day…nope. Maybe next year.

My 15 year old son, gave me a very dry “Happy Mothers Day”, along with a funky, self-centered, teenage ‘attitude’, ulterior motives and a dirty bedroom. Yippee Yay! Nowadays I don’t even get a fruit loop necklace or some of that good old fashioned pre-school macaroni art. I swear, I count the days until his ass is AWAY at school, partaking in campus life. Maybe when he starts paying bills and living in the adult world, we can be friends again. That is my hope. Or he can get thrown offa train too.

I literally dozed off at a Mothers Day concert that took place Epic nightclub. El Debarge was the main event. I love me some Debarge, and I was looking forward to hearing some old school classics.

El was great! He’s still got it. He sang all the ‘cuts’ and the voice is as golden as ever. His falsetto soulfulness is still on point. The performance was not the problem, more so it was the quality of the sound equipment. Terrible. You would think that a swanky club as such, would step up their ‘tech game’. And then there was the very ghetto fabulous fashion show amongst other time wasting tomfoolery occurring before the concert, as well as the off brand crowd in general. I don’t have enough time or blog space to go into particulars. But I’m sure you can imagine.

Side Note: According to his mother, Etterlene “Mama” DeBarge, El is the father of 11 children, the eldest born when El was only fifteen. Hmmm… I wonder what he does for his baby mommas on Mothers Day.

The Beautiful:

More than anything, I took great satisfaction in creating the floral arrangements you see in the photos above. Sunday morning I woke up early and got busy designing my ‘Ode to Spring’ for several women folk who are most deserving of some parent appreciation: My two sisters, Chandra and Marie, my ornery Grandmother and my bestest friend, Nicole.

I was so delighted with the end results that I can’t hardly wait for the next special occasion to creatively express myself through nature.

Butterflies, birdies, colorful striped vases and spring flowers galore. Now that’s pretty darn purty if you ask me. Stay tuned for more high styled creative fun. LOL! If you want to hire me I’m available. I might mess around and start selling wreaths for the holidays. *ha ha*

Considering the quality and festiveness of it all, I really didn’t spend alot of money. Vases included, I would have to say each arrangement cost around $18.00. Not too shabby when compared to the piggy bank breaking prices of having flowers delivered.

Yup, that was my Good, Bad & Beautiful Mothers Day. It is what it is, it did what it does.

For alla the Mommies out there, I hope you were able to relax and partake in a day of honoring all of the hard work and sacrifice that goes into preparing your children for the world. Nobody said it would be easy.

You got the El concert right to a tee. The sound?…uhh! The crowd? off brand! Exactly! And El still got his thing going… On the low, I felt a real connection between El when I was at the front of the stage and he held my hand. I was having visions of being baby mama to no 12! *swoon* LOL

I hope your week is going super!

  8. Damn, mama! Do your talents never End? You are the Keshia Coles of bloggers (yes, trust some of know about them dysfunctional moms). You got one of them crazy ass grandmas too? Mine is off the hook. She’s been threatening to die for years now and is too evil to follow through (I know that is mean but you should hear some of then stuff she says). Anyway, ignore that lil’ boy…you and Golden are in the same boat. She’s over here tryin’ to give hers away!
As far as El is concerned, that many baby mamas, he can’t do a damn thang for them other than sign his name on that check each and every month.

    Happy belated mamas day!
