Just Me, Les Nubians, Wayna & Queen Godis

Lastnite, while chillaxin’ in my PJ’s - appreciating the central air-conditioning - feeling far away from the crazy world we live in, and indulging in a generous slice of strawberry cheesecake — I sailed my way into a cyber oasis of saucy songbirds. I was having x-chromosome moment without any interruptions, stress or mess. Life is good.

Maybe tonite I’ll fall back and enjoy some baritone influenced music. Lord knows I need some testosterone in my life. You know, somebody that can hit them low notes somewhere ‘tween bass and tenor. If they hit it right I might feel compelled to sing falsetto. But now I’m babbling about something completely different.

Anyhoo,

Les Nubians style is still strong (peep the Flickr gallery). Their best known single,“Makeda” never fails to put me in a relaxed, peaceful, mood. The music, the melody, the whole vibe, transcends cultural and language barriers; doing exactly what music is meant to do — unite and inspire.

You know you’ve got skills when the legendary Stevie Wonder declares you are “incredible”. Wayna is ‘that deal’. I especially had fun turning up the volume on her ode to the often (more than it should be), dissapointing, dating scene — and an electrical alternative to the “real thing”, — Mr.Duracell.

Queen Godis is a mirror of womanhood. Check for her and let me know what you think.

A Family Affair: The Take Back Labor Day Festival

The Take Back Labor Day Festival will combine world-class music, cutting-edge activism and family fun to put working Americans’ concerns on the national agenda in a whole new way. The event will take place just across the Mississippi River from the Republican National Convention, which opens on the same day, Sept.1 .

My boo, Mos Def ‘gon be there.

Restless Beauty - Jessica White

Sneak Peek:

Supermodel, Jessica White is turning the heat up on the August cover of Restless Style Magazine - a webzine dedicated to the fans of the daytime soap opera, “The Young and The Restless”.

I haven’t paid attention to a daytime ’soap’ since ‘Luke and Lauras’ wedding (Has it been 25 years already? Dang!). Even then, it was only because between the hours of 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. my grandmother kept the T.V. on lock down - wasn’t nothing coming in between her ’stories’ and we only had one television…

Ah yes, them was the good ‘ol days.

Although I’m not tuned into ‘The Young and The Restless’; I do see potential in their new online venture. Serving up content other than the standard soap talk and episode spoilers, thus far, “Restless Style” is leaning towards the ‘hotness’.

For additional photos, and behind-the-scenes footage of Ms.White, make sure to check out RestlessStyle.com August 25th.

Side Note: In 2005, Jessica became the first African-American model featured in three consecutive Sports Illustrated Swimsuit editions and has appeared in 2007 and 2008 editions since.

Saucy Snippets - Saucy Don’t Wanna Go Home Just Yet…

One thing about Minneapolis that really sucks is that most of the clubs/lounges/venues shut down at 2:00 a.m. — much too early my friends. Usually around that time, ya girl is just getting warmed up. It’s a major drag to call it a night, take my tipsy tail home — only to spend the next few hours staring at the ceiling or watching crappy infomercials on television.

We need more after-hour spots in this joint!

Anyhoo, this here video is a spontaneous ode to having absolutely nowhere to go after the club… This particular night I was coming home from the Caterpillar Lounge, fresh off of 4 “Le femme Nikita” cocktails .
